Friulio is organized every spring by the Asociación A Castronela, where hundreds of local residents gather in their free time to rebuild a castro settlement, including dressing as ancient castro inhabitants or as Romans. Many historical reenactment associations participate in Friulio, including groups from Arde Lucus and others from different parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
This activity aims to highlight the work of Castronela, as well as the Castro Friulio site and its daily tasks: restoration and consolidation of the castro’s pallozas, renewal of vegetation roofs, marking access paths, removal of invasive species, planting native species around the castro, and much more!
VOLUNTEERING TASKS
For 2023, the main goal is to assist in the setup and execution of the II Malla at Castro Friulio: an event first held last year, coinciding with the first edition of this volunteer field. The Malla is about reviving the traditional wheat threshing process—a practice that went far beyond simply sifting cereals. It was a multi-day activity involving all villagers working together to complete the task as quickly as possible, in a festive and collaborative atmosphere.
